On Monday, April 22nd, I tutored Sulaiman.
Because he didn’t have class this week, I wanted to do a fun tutoring session.
I knew that he likes photography, so I decided to meet him at a park to have an
English lesson and review regarding photography. I asked him questions such as
“what kind of pictures do you like to take?” I also taught him some other key
photography vocabulary, such as “focus” and “background.” I had him take a few
photos in the park, and then I asked him why he took the photos and also how he
felt about them. He really liked the idea of the activity and it was intrinsic
motivation for him to learn English. I can tell he’s come a long way from the
first time I met him. He’s only been in the United States for about 3 months,
but we were able to talk about fairly complex topics, and he understood me well
for the most part. There were a couple times when he misunderstood my
questions, but he was mostly able to listen and comprehend very well.
